Our heads can be busy with preparations, filled with doubts, or simply lacking the energy to commit to the road ahead.

What then drives a man to take those first steps? To become firm in himself that preparations are adequate, that doubts should be cast aside and that the journey ahead is one indeed worth taking?

We may have our own rituals, our sets of beliefs or guiding principles that help us to get into gear, but no matter what is happening behind the curtain, it is that first physical act of setting foot to ground that really firms our intention.

Once we are moving, we are unstoppable, slowly moving along our path, and fate then, goes ever as she shall.

Born from a love of history and hiking in the rich nature of North, Central and Western Europe, the thought behind Feorweg is to create a brand inspired by ‘Germanic’ history & natural heritage.

It’s hard to define who and what we mean by Germanic, but broadly we’ll cover it as all those belonging to a culture which spoke a Germanic language. Amongst that we’ll look at the influence of groups such as the Goths, the Anglo-Saxons, the Danes, Swedes, Frisians, Norsemen and their legacy on the world today.

We’re talking loosely of groups of people spanning from the Baltic to the Alps and later into France, England and beyond who shared a common route language and similar cultural identities. We’ll look at a time span from roughly 500BCE, right through to modernity, exploring art, warfare, literature and influential figures of history. Feorweg focuses not just on the origins of ‘Germanic’ cultures, but the cultural landscape in which they joined, including their conflicts, and their legacies today.

The inspiration for the brand’s name ‘Feorweg’ comes from an old English word, meaning ‘a way or path leading to a distant destination; a long way or journey’.
